On Friday, April 4th, at 4:30 p.m. (Center born for culture and memory), the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, will participate in the opening of feminist conversations. Also present will be the councilor for feminisms and democratic memory, Raquel Gil, and the vice president, Maria Eugènia Gay.
The days that will take place on April 4th and 5th are free and open to all citizens.
This is the second edition of Feminist Conversations, featuring conferences and workshops designed in collaboration with city entities and organizations to delve into the situation of women in various fields and find answers to the main challenges on the path to achieving real and efficient equality.
The days will start with the opening presentation «Women in the world» by Mary Nash, an Irish historian, professor, and author, a pioneer in the study of women’s history, gender, and feminism in Spain.
Tomorrow, there will be a round table discussion on public space and gender policies featuring different members of the jury of the last 25n award: Anna Bofill, Composer Arquitty Allance International for Women in Music; Ana Peculi, researcher working at the intersection of social projects, community engagement, and spatial transformation processes; Sandra Cinta, specialized in rehabilitation, accessibility, and sustainability and a professor at the Barcelona Architecture School and the International University of Catalonia (UIC); and Blanca Valdivia, a sociologist specialized in human ecology and population. Friday will conclude with an artistic performance.
Saturday will be the turn of the working groups. Participants will have to choose one of the six thematic proposals: «Feminisms, culture of peace, and anti-masculinism»; «Response to discourse of desires»; «The management and empowerment of women: tools for managing personal work and labor»; «Mechanisms of male psychological domination»; «Wikidones / Wikimujeres»; and «Culture and gender.»
There will also be a presentation on international alliances, one on feminist economics by Carmen Castro, an economist and feminist specializing in social assistance models, European policies, and birth systems, and another on masculinities by Roy Galan, a writer, chronicler, influencer, and LGBTI+ activist; Lionel Delgado, a philosopher, sociologist, and researcher in urban planning, feminisms, and models of masculinity; and Martín Frasso, a social anthropologist, technical expert on municipal team pluralism, focusing on masculinities.
In these two days, all the previous work of the working groups, which took place in January and February, will also be shared. This previous work took place in different parts of the city, with six thematic groups where experts participated in various fields such as technologies, care, feminization of poverty, male violence, work in neighborhoods, and masculinities.
Registration to participate in the conference is now open and can be formalized through the feminist conversations website.
