Barcelona, as a promoter of the mayors’ initiative for housing, participated in the meeting organized by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg, on Wednesday, July 2, this day, and presented the action plan for accessible and sustainable housing, which is one of its main goals to promote financial support. The Barcelona delegation was led by the deputy mayor of economy, housing, treasury, and tourism, Jordi Valls, and the commissioner of European Affairs, Mar Jiménez.

Municipal representatives made the visit to organize a bilateral meeting with EIB representatives who shared their ideas and proposals on housing policy financing. Valls and Jiménez asked the bank to take into account the specificities and different cases of cities when creating their financing lines and thanked the interlocutors for recognizing the key role of cities in approaching the housing crisis.

Among the ideas that the EIB group has shared with mayors’ representatives for the housing alliance is the desire to increase available financing to increase the supply of accessible housing for both low and middle incomes, who are increasingly affected by the housing crisis. The EIB improves both house renovation and new construction, in a sustainable and innovative way.
