It is the first of the 4 concerts at the Palau de la Música Catalana for the Grec Festival
The Orfeó Català will perform the international choral work this Saturday night
The show has been produced by the GREC Festival and the Palau de la Música Catalana and will be performed by 150 voices from the different choirs of the Orfeó Català (Orfeó Català, Cor Jove, and Cor de Noies), as explained by the organizers in the presentation of the event this Friday at the sanctuary.
This will be the first time that this composition from 2002 is performed in Spain, and it will be presented through a staging with lights, lasers, and a large veil inside the temple that will evolve in eight cycles from the initial darkness to the brightest moment.
Originally, the choral work was designed to be performed for eight hours from midnight to dawn, although this version has a reduced duration of two and a half hours.
It is a religious and spiritual work, which the composer described as a stele, evoking a transition from darkness to light through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Other concerts at the Palau de la Música
This is the first of the 4 concerts at the Palau de la Música Catalana for the Grec Festival; in the second one, in July, the Palau’s planets will host «The Planets» by Gustav Holst with the young orchestra of the counties of Girona, the Cafélago of the girls from the Catalan direction of Claudes, under the direction of Ros.
On July 27, 70 international young singers will perform at the concert hall of the Palau de la Música Catalana in a program of various a cappella works conducted by Daniel Reuss as part of their tour through France and Catalonia.
Finally, on July 28, a co-production of the Palau will be represented with the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (Jonde) at the same concert hall under the direction of Nuno Coelho.
