Curupira is a beloved figure from Brazilian folklore and now is part of the visual identity of COP30
A delegation from the Generalitat de Catalunya is participating in the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which is taking place from November 10 to 21 in Belém de Pará (Brazil).
The Catalan presence at COP30 consolidates Catalonia’s role in cooperation between subnational governments, promoting climate action from the territories, and involving citizens and youth in the eco-social transition.
Call for bold leadership
The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has warned that current country commitments still point towards a climate collapse and has called for bold leadership from governments.
He also stated that the goal of limiting the temperature increase to one and a half degrees by the end of the century is still achievable.
The voice of youth
For the first time, two representatives from the group Youth for Eco-Social Transition will be part of the Catalan delegation at COP30.
Sara Millan and Agustí Fort will participate in the YOUNGO and ACE Hub spaces of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Strengthening alliances
During the first week of COP30, Catalonia will participate in various debate spaces and meetings with other regions and international organizations, focusing on climate resilience, Mediterranean cooperation, biodiversity, and green financing.
Mediterranean cooperation
Catalonia is organizing the event «From droughts to heatwaves and forest fires: Mediterranean regions unite for climate resilience.» Representatives from California, Western Cape (South Africa), and New South Wales (Australia) will also participate.
There will also be institutional meetings with New South Wales and other territories to share experiences in energy transition, green economy, and sustainable forest management.
