This morning, the ceremony for handing over the keys to the new tenants of eight affordable rental homes took place in the district of Congrés i els Indians, in the Sant Andreu district. Located in Puerto Príncipe, 29 years old, the homes were allocated to families registered in Barcelona’s official protected housing registry.
The homes were rented at affordable prices, in this case, the families moving in will pay a monthly rent related to the area of the house, which will always be around 663 and 8331 euros. These incomes plus community expenses will not exceed 40% of the family’s income. As usual, for this promotion, different reservations were made according to the typology for the allocation of apartments: two homes for under 35s; two more for neighbors in the area and surroundings (Navas, Sagrada Familia, and Guinardó); two for large families; one for single-parent families and more allocated to the general contingent.
These homes were the first that the City Council bought on the map of the Municipal Reserve measure of 30%, because the property was purchased by a private developer who made a major renovation changing the industrial use to residential. The acquisition was completed in 2022, through the preferential right of the administration to buy protected housing in the city for a total of almost 2.1 million euros. The development consists of a total of 27 homes, of which 19 are free and 8 are protected.
The event was chaired by the housing commissioner, Joan Ramon Riera, who celebrated that «the delivery of the keys to the home provides the opportunity to start a life project.» Likewise, the commissioner wanted to emphasize that, from the City Council, «We work to make events like today’s more frequent. Our priority is to ensure the right to decent and accessible housing and to expand the municipal public housing stock.»
The protected homes have a useful area between 71.80 m2 and 89.98 m2. They all have three bedrooms and parking for cars and bicycles. One home also has a storage room.
Affordable Housing in the Sant Andreu District
One of the municipal government’s priorities is to guarantee the right to decent and accessible housing for citizens and, through the plan, reinforces the strategy of expanding the public parking stock at affordable prices, both for direct promotion and delegated promotion.
Specifically, in the Sant Andreu district, more than 360 homes from the city’s public stock have been delivered in the last year and a half. In addition to these eight recently delivered homes, 54 homes were delivered last summer in the Vella Trinitated district and 85 in the same promotion for the elderly. At the end of February, 156 homes for elderly teams were also allocated in the old barracks of Sant Andreu, which has a total of 241 elderly homes delivered in recent months in the district.
Furthermore, in the area of the old Andreu barracks, 80 flats will soon be delivered, which are part of the largest and most inclusive cooperative housing project. Promoted by the Civic Cooperative, it will integrate an inclusive community of people with intellectual disabilities managed by the TEB cooperation group. The construction of a promotion of 35 cooperative flats is also underway.
