Barcelona offers the keys to 152 public housing units with services for the elderly in Baraca Sant Andreu: press service
The old barracks of Sant Andreu received -Per -the first residents of the new housing development for the elderly in the city. It is a development built by the Municipal Institute of Housing and Rehabilitation in Barcelona (IMHH) of 152 units with specific services for people over 65 who enjoy autonomy in their daily lives and do not have housing or are not accessible.
This key delivery is classified within the life plan, the plan that seeks the efficiency of all policies related to housing, from land mobilization to the care of all life stages, from youth to the elderly.
The building is located on the new street of Antoni Santiburcio, facing -se the barracks of the Mossos d’Esquadra, between the promenade of Torras and the Bages and the park of Antoni Santibarcio. The «C» Silent building is the work of the prestigious architect Josep Llinàs and also includes an underground car park and a public facility where Jaume Oller Jaume Space will be located. The construction of these units began in October 2020 and has a total investment of nearly 11.7 million euros.
In this way, the first 88 units were delivered and the next Tuesday 25 will be delivered. On the ground floor are the community spaces and multifunctional rooms typical of team housing for the elderly. The professional services offered by the Municipal Institute of Social Services, every day of the week, between 9 pm and 7.30 am, and always guarantee 24-hour attention through the municipal relief service.
Of the total of 152 units, 38 were reserved for residents of the Santu de Palomar district, and the surrounding areas, and the rest were intended for the general contingent. In addition, there are 6 adapted units. The rental prices for these units are established based on the economic capacity of the tenants and range between 358 and 394 euros.

The model of units with services for the elderly consists of fully adapted and accessible units, directed and managed by professionals from the Municipal Institute of Social Services (IMSS).
