   BARCELONA, 23 (EUROPA PRESS)

Catalunya has closed this Thursday the «most intense day» of the strong wind episode that has affected various parts of the territory and has caused the Generalitat’s Firefighters to attend to a thousand services, as reported by Protecció Civil in a statement.

In this sense, the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC) has reported that the most intense episode has already passed, and that during tonight and Friday, much more moderate wind gusts are expected.

Despite this, Protecció Civil has decided to keep the Ventcat plan alert active due to «the high number of services and incidents pending resolution» that firefighters are managing.

«Mostly, there have been damages to furniture and fallen trees,» explained the Counselor of Interior and Public Security of the Generalitat, Núria Parlon, in a note in ‘X’, collected by Europa Press, where she also thanked the emergency teams for their work in dealing with the incidents.

The emergency phone 112 has received a total of 1,733 calls generating 860 files related to the wind episode until 9 pm.

The bulk of the calls were received between 1 pm and 4 pm, and the vast majority (92%) were due to structural risk in buildings, while the most affected regions were Barcelonès (550), Vallès Occidental (521), and Baix Llobregat (147).

A DEATH AND AN INJURY

Related to the episode, a 53-year-old man drowned at Cala d’en Becs in Tarragona, an incident that also left a 51-year-old woman injured.

Salvament Marítim, Bombers, and Mosos d’Esquadra were able to pull them out of the water in «very adverse maritime conditions,» and the woman was taken to Hospital Joan XIII in less serious condition.

Regarding other medical attentions, the Sistema d’Emegrències Mèdiques (SEM) assisted 18 people, of which four were discharged on-site, and 14 were transferred to different healthcare centers.

OTHER INCIDENTS

The Servei Català de Trànsit has reported that there are no longer any incidents on Catalan roads after road closures on routes such as C-16, B-23, AP-7, and N-420, and Rodalies has restored circulation on all lines that were still closed, namely R1 and RL4.

Finally, Endesa has also reported that all incidents related to various power cuts have been resolved.
