The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has called for «responsibility» in the new requirement to wear a helmet when riding an electric scooter, with a regulation that comes into effect this Saturday and has stated that he maintains the sidewalks for pedestrians and protect more vulnerable groups.
Through a municipal statement, Collboni stated that by following the rules, we will enjoy a better, more civic, and safer Barcelona: «The city we want and deserve.»
Collboni emphasized that in Barcelona, you can travel by car, motorcycle, bicycle, or electric scooter, but always respecting the rules: «Each one must have their space, with their rights and obligations, and it is essential that we all comply,» he said.
«All of Barcelona and Barcelona must contribute to our effort to protect a quality public space and ensure a more sustainable, efficient, and safe mobility,» he said.
Scabies and bicycles
Starting this Saturday, Collboni reminds us, electric scooters must be over 16 years old, wear a helmet, and cannot ride on the sidewalks; They can only circulate on 30 streets, bike lanes, and peaceful roads.
Bicycles cannot ride on sidewalks, except for those under 12 years old and accompanied, and in pacified streets, bicycle riders and electric scooters must dismount if there are pedestrians.
