Unemployment in Catalonia decreased by 2,318 people in February (-0.69%) compared to January, after increasing by 0.43% the previous month, with a total of 334,321 unemployed individuals.
As reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy in a statement, unemployment decreased by 12,052 people compared to the same month a year ago (-3.48%) in Catalonia.
Across Spain, the number of registered unemployed individuals in public employment services decreased by 5,994 people in February (-0.23%) compared to the previous month, totaling 2.593 million.
In terms of gender, women represented 57.5% of the unemployed in Catalonia, with a total of 192,391 unemployed individuals, while men represented 42.4%, with 141,930 unemployed individuals.
Madrid was the autonomous community where unemployment increased the most in absolute numbers compared to the previous month (4,172 individuals), followed by the Canary Islands (1,328) and Castilla-La Mancha (3,078), while the largest decreases were in the Valencian Community (-6,074 individuals), Catalonia (-2,318), and Andalusia (-2,268).
By Provinces
Compared to the previous month, unemployment decreased by 1.83% in Lleida, 0.88% in Tarragona, 0.6% in Barcelona, and 0.55% in Girona.
Year-on-year, unemployment decreased by 5.62% in Lleida, 3.75% in Lleida, 3.48% in Tarragona, and 3.3% in Barcelona.
Category
The decrease in unemployment in Catalonia was driven by the services sector, with 1,910 fewer unemployed individuals; the construction sector, with 392; the industry, 359; and agriculture, 100.
On the other hand, unemployment only increased in the previously unemployed collective with 443 more unemployed individuals.
Contracts
In February, 180,250 contracts were registered in Catalonia, of which 80,734 were permanent and 99,516 were temporary, with 14,672 fewer contracts than in January (-7.53%) and 8,442 fewer contracts than a year ago (-4.47%).
Therefore, permanent contracts accounted for 44.8% of the total contracts registered and temporary contracts for 55.2%.
