The director of the Memorial Democàtic, Jordi Font Agalló, and the secretary of criminal measures, reintegration, and victim support of the Generalitat, Elena Pérez, presented the first book at the Barcelona Women’s Prison of Trinitat Vella, Trinitat. It was given as gifts ignored 1963-1983.
The event took place at the old prison facilities, coinciding with the 8 meters, and was attended by inmates and workers from that time, as reported by the Ministry of Justice in a statement.
Font stated that the book published by the Memorial Democàtic at the first Catalan prison built for women is «a fundamental contribution to understanding the repression that many women suffered in Catalonia.»
It is an investigation by historians César Lorenzo Rubio and Carlota Falgueras Marsal, collecting testimonies from about 40 women, including political prisoners, common inmates, lawyers, and workers from the center from 1963 to 1983.
In 1983, the prisoners were moved to the former youth reform school of Wad-Ras, in Poblenou, while Trinitat was reconciled to the youth penitentiary center (for those under 21 years old); The demolition of the facilities began in 2009, and today there are young people in an open regime.
