The group of Les Notícies de Catalunya, the editor of «El Nacional,» has reached an agreement with the Perplexity Company to be part of its program for editors, which already includes publications such as «El País,» the British «The Independent,» «Der Spiegel,» «Timpul,» and «Los Angeles Times.»
In a statement released on Friday, the group celebrated being the «first Catalan editorial partner» of Perplexity, a conversational search engine that includes the source of information in its responses.
With this agreement, Perplexity will provide users with different news when they search, as the engine will «feed» all the information published by the group, including «El Nacional,» «Economia,» and «El Cas,» among others.
Catalan Search Engine
It also highlighted that this agreement will allow the search engine to «better profile Catalan search engines» and for the group’s publications to integrate the search promoted by their websites and applications through the use of the Perplexity API.
The editorial group Les Notícies de Catalunya and the director of «El Nacional,» José Antic, labeled the agreement with «historical perplexity because it places the group in a prominent position in the new era marked by AI.»
The CEO of the group, Albert Terradas, appreciated «the commitment to artificial intelligence, both informative and for the improvement it will contribute to product delivery.»
Co-Financed by Bezons
Perplexity is a «startup» and is co-financed, among others, by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos; multinational companies like Nvidia and Telefónica, and its market value is estimated at around $9 billion.
The head of the Public Advertising Program Department, Jessica Chan, welcomed «El Nacional»: «To offer the best possible product, our editorial program must reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of the global database,» she explained.
