The Catalan project «Nutrivision» has started applying immersive experiences with virtual reality to raise awareness about children aged 10 to 12, especially considering the effects of energy drinks that are often consumed starting at age 12.
The project, led by The Kid’s Cluster, has received support from Acció (the Generalitat agency for business competitiveness) with a grant of 69,000 euros, as reported by the Ministry of Business and Labor this Sunday in a statement.
The initiative aims to address the increase in overweight and obesity rates among the child population and the rise in the consumption of products such as energy drinks at an early age, through a virtual reality video and a workshop on energy drinks.
After the pilot test, the percentage of students who recognized that energy drinks can be harmful increased from 79% to 92%.
Anna López, the director of Kid’s Cluster, emphasized that children «receive messages in a different, more motivating, and impactful way,» as the introduction of game elements in training experiences captures attention and predisposes them to participate.
The project has relied on the expertise of scientists to design and produce virtual reality content; the University of Barcelona to validate processes and assess the project’s impact, and TBKIDS for the educational context and relationship with children, families, and schools.
