The independentist entities organizing the Diada demonstration, including ANC and Òmnium Cultural, have called on Thursday to disobey if the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) on Catalan in classrooms is implemented.
«If the State and its courts want to impose this ruling on us, let’s disobey in the classrooms, let’s disobey in the streets and in the institutions because no judge should tell us in what language we have to speak or what language we have to have. No judge!» exclaimed the president of the ANC, Lluís Llach, responsible for reading the manifesto agreed upon by the independentist entities.
Amid chants of ‘now and always school in Catalan’ from the attendees, he demanded that institutions not allow «the obsession of a judge to undermine» Catalan schools, despite admitting that they do not have much hope in this regard.
According to Llach, there are more reasons than ever to defend Catalan, which he has defined as the «soul of the nation,» so he has asked those present for an individual and collective commitment to maintain its use.
For the independentist entities, Catalan must have a full and continuous presence in all areas, «without renunciations or substitutions,» and has encouraged strengthening its viability as a unifying axis.
«Our language is the backbone of our nation, and they know it. Our enemies know it!» declared Llach, predicting that they will win if all Catalans defend their language.
Thus, he demanded an end to «apologetic attitudes that only benefit the predators» of Catalans, taking the opportunity to criticize the TSJC for once again going against Catalonia and its school model.
«We cannot allow a politicized and anti-Catalan court at the service of the State to dismantle a parliamentary and social consensus of decades in the country,» emphasized Llach, who cited Renfe and Sijena as other examples of issues that, in his opinion, affect Catalans.
In the manifesto, they highlight the need to achieve independence to have «a fairer and more equitable society» and have positioned the set of rights and duties outlined in multiple international treaties on human rights as a reference for the independentist entities.
According to Llach, the violation of fundamental rights «in Catalonia and against Catalonia is constant, planned, and scandalous» and that impoverishes Catalans.
He also lamented living in a «permanent judicial coup since 2017» and the decision of some judges not to apply the Amnesty Law, reaffirming that the 1-O was possible thanks to civil disobedience, something he sees as possible to repeat.
In the final part of the manifesto, Llach called on the independentist parties to seek «paths of understanding,» after which the attendees chanted ‘unity.’
«Taking advantage of the strength of independentism and the people who want a free Catalonia, restore to the institutions their role as the backbone of the national aspirations of our people,» he demanded.
He warned that the independentist entities will pressure to achieve this goal and added: «We will rise again because the people of Catalonia have made it clear that they will not give up their freedom and that our will to be is an irreversible path.»
