Celebrate the agreement with the PSC to reduce «one point» the income tax for those earning less than 33,000 euros
ERC’s Secretary General and spokesperson, Elisenda Alamany, has warned the government that they will support a «technical» credit supplement decree and not the 4,000 million euros as initially proposed by the Catalan Executive.
She spoke about this on Monday at a press conference, given the forecast that the government will take a credit supplement to the Consell executive to incorporate the expected revenues into the extended Generalitat budget.
«We are not talking about the 4,000 million here. Another thing is that today the government has a technical decree that allows the current budget to be equated with last year’s,» Alamany said, recalling that the same thing happened during the ERC-led government of Pere Aragonès, to which an extension of credit of about 2,000 million was added.
She said that «it would be good for these resources to be» to ensure the extended budget of 2024 and the 2,000 million euros credit supplement, as she believes that otherwise, there would be a de facto cut, quite literally.
Income Tax Reduction
The spokesperson has maintained the agreement between ERC and the government to reduce the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) for incomes below 33,000 euros and has detailed that this reduction will begin to be applied from the year 2026.
She explained that the pact includes a reduction «from one point, to 9.5% of the first section of the Catalan scale tax» and emphasized that this would benefit 75% of taxpayers and the Catalan middle class.
Alamany specified that this agreement with the socialist government «will not include an increase in higher incomes» and the Catalan executive must approve it through a decree and validate it in parliament.
Commuter Trains
At the Commuter Trains monographic event that will be held this week in Parliament, Alamany has demanded more ambition from the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa: «If you don’t have enough courage to confront the government, to say it.»
She denied that the agreement for the state to maintain the majority of Renfe passengers, to whom the central government and the Renfe and Adif unions came to distrust the strike, would mean taking «steps back.»
«The fact that Renfe plays an important role, in addition to providing security to workers, also ensures much more agility when certain procedures related to safety licenses are resolved,» said Alamany, who insisted that there will be a company with majority management by the Generalitat that will make decisions about Commuter Trains.
