Jaume Colloni participates in the award ceremony for the cultural categories of the city of Barcelona
The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Colloni, participated in the ceremony presenting the cultural categories of the city of Barcelona 2024, an acknowledgment of excellence in various fields of culture and knowledge marking its 75th anniversary this year.
During the ceremony, the Mayor congratulated the winners, emphasizing that these awards, bestowed by the same sector, «celebrate commitment, talent, and artistic courage, a clear demonstration of the cultural vitality we have in our country.» Colloni highlighted that in the current reactionary context, «the path to progress is through culture, democracy, and the protection of conquered rights. The revolution against reaction will be through culture,» concluded the Mayor.
Today, the City of Barcelona 2024 awards were received in the field of letters and thought, with Xavier PLA winning the essay, humanity, and history category; Gabriela Wiener in Spanish literature; Cristina Masanés in Catalan literature; and Xavier Pànms in Catalan translation. Regarding the disciplines of design and architecture, the award for architecture and urban planning was given to Carlos Ferter, Lucía Ferrater, and Jesús Coll, while design and fashion went to Tress Helbig.
The City of Barcelona 2024 awards also recognized Maria Rodríguez Soto and EstaMPA Workshop Collective in the categories of audiovisual and digital culture, respectively. In the field of popular culture and education, the coordinator of the Colles giant in Barcelona was recognized in popular and community cultures, and Marta Galán in culture and education. In music, visual arts, and performances, the winners were Tart Rerena, Jordi Colomme, and Victoria Szunberg, respectively.
Organized since 1949, the Barcelona City awards have evolved and adapted to the changing reality of the moment and the city’s evolution. Starting as literary awards, they later incorporated other artistic disciplines, as well as research projects and scientific education. In this way, the City of Barcelona awards reinforce their role in recognizing excellence and international projection in cultural, scientific, and educational research in Barcelona.
The jury for each category is composed of individuals with recognized prestige in their respective fields, proposed by the Barcelona Council of Culture and the Scientific Advisory Council.
On May 27th, the ceremony for the delivery of the scientific categories of the City of Barcelona 2024 awards will take place.
