The works on the new Abaceria market, in the Gràcia district, are progressing according to the planned schedule, with the installation of ceramic pieces for the roof, the assembly of glass and other facade closures. This action is expected to last until the end of the project and is carried out in parallel with progress on the interior work of the facility (paving, closures, installations, finishes, etc.), in order to optimize the times of disruption caused by the market renovation work, which is expected to be completed in 2025.

Currently, following the schedule of works, the main metal structure and the interior concrete structures, both in the basement and upper levels, have been completed.

The works, carried out by the Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona, already addressed the closure of the main roof, which began in May, to install the different layers of material in the interior finish, as well as thermal and waterproof insulation. This process is now ending with the installation of colored ceramic pieces and photovoltaic panels that will show the final exterior appearance.
In parallel, in June, the metal substructures that make up the facade closures and curtain walls of the market were started to be installed. Currently, the installation of glass, wooden louvers, and other materials planned for the exterior closures of the market has begun, revealing the skeleton of the entire exterior part of the market.

In terms of installations, most of the basements have been executed, and work is being carried out on the upper levels and ground floor as the works allow.
Regarding the market establishments, the installation of the metal structures that will support the signs, shutters, and all the equipment of the interior shops has been completed.
As for the exterior part of the market, work is already underway on the exterior establishments planned on c/Torrijos and c/Puigmartí, and during the summer, it is expected to finish the installation of the interior market pavement and continue with the exterior closures, installations, and interior finishes.
The forecast for the completion of the main construction works of the new market building is by the end of 2025. From that moment, the works to adapt the market establishments could begin, and finally, from that moment, the works to adapt the surroundings of the new market, managed by the Gràcia District through the municipal company BIMSA, could also be carried out.
The works on the new market were awarded for an amount of 22.5 million euros and started at the end of October 2023. In total, the entire intervention for the renovation of the Abaceria Market will involve an investment of 38 million euros, which includes in the same work the construction and replacement of the provisional market and the works for the change of direction of the Travessera de Gràcia.
