- The council activated yesterday the daytime alert phase for intense heat aimed at caring for vulnerable people with professionals from CUESB distributing water, hats, and fans
- Teleassistance and Home Care services will be intensified to carry out systematic monitoring and control of vulnerable people
- Barcelona firefighters activate the Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk in alert phase
The Barcelona City Council activates the Basic Municipal Emergency Plan for Heatwave in alert phase following the warning from the Catalan Meteorological Service of a dangerous weather situation as temperatures are expected to exceed 34.2°C in the city.
With the activation of the heatwave alert, the Barcelona City Council, through teleassistance services, home care, and social services centers, carries out specific information tasks related to the meteorological risk situation, accompanied by systematic monitoring and control of vulnerable individuals.

In cases where it is considered appropriate, measures are activated to prevent individuals at higher risk from going out on the hottest hours of the day, through the occasional provision of meals at home, the delivery of fans, or personalized home care. Furthermore, with the aim of preventing fragile individuals from staying outside, measures for staying or extending activities in air-conditioned centers such as senior centers, day centers for the elderly, and for disabled individuals are activated. Lunch and dinner are also included, if necessary.
The activation of the alert phase entails intensifying the information and monitoring measures for vulnerable groups that the Barcelona City Council routinely activates between June 15 and September 15. Throughout this period, a permanent telephone service is offered to citizens (900 70 30 30) and information on the possible effects of a heatwave and a set of recommendations to prevent them are disseminated.

Yesterday, the daytime alert phase for intense heat was activated as the meteorological situation poses a high danger to vulnerable individuals in the city. This activation involved the implementation of a series of specific preventive actions involving the deployment of street teams. Therefore, the Emergency and Social Emergencies Center (CUESB), in coordination with the municipal Civil Protection service and in collaboration with the Red Cross, launched a specific operation on the public thoroughfare to inform vulnerable individuals about the location of climate shelters and public water sources, and to distribute preventive materials such as hats and water bottles.

Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk in Alert Phase
The City Council has activated the Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk in Alert Phase following the activation by the Government of Catalonia of Level 3 of the Alfa Plan in the Barcelonès region.
For this reason, all Barcelona Fire Department parks will remain on alert due to the high possibility of a forest fire and resources allocated to Collserola will be increased.

The public is urged to exercise maximum caution and cooperation, and it is reminded that it is prohibited to carry out forestry work or any activity that could generate sparks within 500 meters of the forest area. This includes the prohibition of burning waste and having barbecues (barbecues are only allowed in authorized areas, provided they comply with the conditions set by the Forest Fringes Decree).
The forest campaign of the Barcelona Fire Department started in early June and will be active until mid-September. During this period, the Civil Protection, Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Service (SPCPEIS) adapts and reinforces its devices to address the summer months and provide a quick and effective response to possible forest fires that may occur in this area during the hottest months in the city.
The teams are deployed throughout the nearly 1,800 hectares of parkland belonging to the city of Barcelona, distributed among the districts of Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris, and Gràcia.
Preventive notice of PM10 pollution

Municipal device activated
The council also implements the planned actions, such as more intensive watering of streets with heavy traffic, avoiding the use of blowers, watering non-paved parks, and notifying those responsible for ongoing construction to comply with the environmental plan.
In light of the concurrent activation of action plans, the City Council has activated the Municipal Civil Protection Plan in alert phase.
