Cristóbal Montoro allegedly obtained reserved information about politicians and celebrities as Minister of Finance (2011-18) from the State Tax Agency (AEAT), as shown in the summary of the case for which he is accused and reported by Europe Press.
The transcribed emails contain information about politicians Rodrigo Rato, Esperanza Aguirre, «J.Pique,» athlete Rafa Nadal, the Gürtel case, the Pujol case, and the Isabel II canal.
In the case of Rafa Nadal and Esperanza Aguirre, Correos refers to tax inspections.
The special prosecutor for organized crime and corruption, in collaboration with the tax agency, confirms Correos about the handling of sensitive and legally binding information, and others related to a possible interference in the decisions of officials.
The address «aromero»
One of the corporate email addresses that received this relevant and protected information was «Aromero,» to whom the emails were addressed as «minister,» according to the criminal prosecution.
«It would corroborate that the email address» aromero@minhap.es «would correspond to then Minister Cristóbal Montoro, not only for being cited as the beneficiary of the» minister … «.
For the prosecution, it is also relevant that, being a corporate mailbox of the ministry, the issue reflected in the email «would confirm that this recipient receives information about the issues of exercising this ministerial portfolio.»
