Agents de la Policia Nacional have confiscated 1,496 contraband tobacco packets from two passengers from Turkey as they were preparing to catch a coach at the Barcelona Nord station to travel to Romania, the police reported in a statement this Friday.
The events occurred on March 11, when agents from the Mobile Brigade of Barcelona police identified two passengers carrying two large bags and displaying a very nervous attitude.
After checking their documentation, it was found that they had arrived that morning in Barcelona on a flight from Istanbul (Turkey) and, given the ambiguous responses of the two men, the police inspected their luggage, where they found 1,496 boxes of tobacco with the turkey stamp, with an approximate value of around 7,500 euros on the market.
The agents proceeded to issue two intervention certificates under organic law 12/95 on the repression of smuggling, in addition to notifying the tax agency and opening an investigation into a possible new smuggling route to Europe.
The police reported that, on the occasion of the Mobile World Congress 2025 between March 3 and 6, security at public transport stations was reinforced with daily checks and that during the first half of the month, the mobile brigade seized a total of 5,834 grams of marijuana in various operations, resulting in 3 arrests for drug trafficking.
