The Barcelona City Council, through the Barcelona Sports Institute (IBE), will carry out works on the artificial turf of the 7-A and Carmel football fields.
The municipal football field of Satalia is located in the district of Sants-Montjuïc and is expected to act on an area of 1,503.96 m², while the Carmel municipal football fields are located in the Horta-Guinardó district, with the project area focusing on an area of 1,804.58 m².
The project carried out on these two football fields responds to the Barcelona Sports Institute’s desire to update sports facilities that, due to use and the passage of time, needed an update. The change of turf allows for the recovery of the best technical conditions for football practice.
Installation of state-of-the-art artificial turf
Starting from the asphalt of the two fields, the installation of a prefabricated elastic base of 20 mm thickness made of reticulated polyethylene foam with thermal bonding with production waste material that does not include contaminants.
The current turf will be replaced by a new 40 mm artificial turf, with silica sand, combining at least 6 straight monofilament strands and 4 monofilament strands with texture.
This turf was specially designed for football. The main feature of this type of state-of-the-art turf is that it no longer incorporates SBR rubber and is ahead of the prohibition established by European regulations for the use of microplastics by 2030.
It is a much denser turf than the ones used up to now. The width and thickness of the defined fiber ensure the durability of the turf, and the absence of rubber reduces maintenance, as filaments and redistribution are eliminated.
At the equipment level, it is expected to replace the goalkeeper nets and the goalkeeper change and nets at the Carmel field. Regarding maintenance, it is planned to clean the perimeter channels and replace the weak collection grate. The project also includes the replacement of irrigation systems at the Satalia field and the supply of Foter Football 7 Carmel with a new irrigation system for systems with a water tank and chlorination system.
The total budget for the actions is around 405,000 euros. In this sense, the cost of replacing the artificial turf of the municipal football field 7 in Satalia is 183,955.36 euros, including VAT, while the contract for the replacement of the artificial turf of the municipal football field 7 of Carmel is 221,076.81 euros with VAT.
The execution period for the works for the replacement of the artificial turf of the municipal field in Satalia is estimated at 9 weeks, while that of the municipal field in Carmel is estimated at 10 weeks. The works are expected to be carried out during the summer months to minimize the impact on the sports competitions offered during the regular season.
These actions add to those of the Barcelona Sports Institute and have led to the renovation of the turf of these sports facilities.
