The unemployment rate fell by 0.6% compared to February in the province of Barcelona, and by 3.7% compared to 2024, reaching 8.7% and achieving the lowest figure for a March since 2008, according to the latest monthly report on unemployment in the province of Barcelona by the Diputación, which recorded 246,402 unemployed individuals looking for employment.
The decrease in unemployment is widespread across all major sectors and is more noticeable in the industry (-0.6%) and services (-0.9%), the two sectors with the most weight in the province; Additionally, older individuals experienced an increase of 1.5%.
In terms of age, the decrease is concentrated among 25-year-olds (-0.7%), while it «timidly» increases among younger individuals of 25 years, mainly among men in this age group (0.3%).
Regarding territorial distribution, the decrease has spread across 9 of the 13 regions of Barcelona and has been particularly significant in Alt Penedès (-3.4%), followed by Lluçanès (-1.6%).
However, it has increased in 4 regions, with the most significant increase in Berguedà at 1.1%.
