El vent assola Portbou amb ràfegues de 160 km/h i el 112 registra 601 trucades a Catalunya

The strong wind episode in Catalonia this Sunday has resulted in 601 calls to the emergency phone 112 until 12 noon, with maximum gusts of 160 kilometers per hour (km/h) recorded in Portbou (Girona), as reported by Protecció Civil in a statement.

The Ventcat plan remains activated, and forecasts indicate that the episode will last until Tuesday, with strong winds in the southernmost part, in Baix Ebre and Montisà (Tarragona), and the northern strip, in the Pyrenees and Alt Empordà (Girona).

According to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC), gusts of wind exceeding 125 km/h are expected this Sunday, with a particular impact in the northern and eastern regions, specifically in Alt Empordà (Girona), Berguedà (Barcelona), the northern part of Cerdanya (Girona), Garrotxa (Girona), Ripollès (Girona), and Solsonès (Lleida). An alert from Protecció Civil was sent to the mobile phones in these areas last Friday.

BOMBERS
The Firefighters of the Generalitat have received a total of 335 reports related to the wind from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, with 261 in the Emergency Region of Girona, mostly due to fallen trees, roof elements, and incidents in the power grid.

In Vall-llobrega, Palamós, and Calonge (Girona), elements from roofs and solar panels have caused damage to parked cars on the street, while in Sant Jordi Desvalls (Girona), the fall of several light poles caused a power outage around 11 a.m.

In the Central Emergency Region, 40 reports were received, mostly related to fallen trees and architectural elements, with the most significant service being in Berga (Barcelona), where the wind lifted the roof of the municipal brigade’s warehouse for the second time in a few weeks.

In other regions, the Firefighters received 12 reports from the Emergency Region of Tarragona, where part of the roof of the bus station in Reus was blown off; 9 reports in Lleida and 5 in Terres de l’Ebre (Tarragona) due to fallen elements and small fires of reeds and agricultural burns that have already been extinguished.

CARRETERAS AFECTADAS
The Servei Català de Trànsit reported that due to the wind and fallen trees, a dozen roads are affected, with the C-61 in Arenys de Mar (Barcelona), the GI-502 in Darnius, the GI-503 in Maçanet de Cabrenys, the GIV-4011 in Campelles, the GIV-5221 between Montagut and Camprodon, the GIV-5232 between Tortellà and Montagut, and the GIV-5234 in Beuda, in Girona, being closed in both directions.

The Mossos d’Esquadra are collaborating in signaling the closures and redirecting traffic at points with road closures due to fallen trees and other weather-related incidents.
