Despite the forest campaign of 2025 being marked by a rainy winter and spring, the extreme drought has left dead trees in the forests of Catalonia and fossil material.
In addition, the abundant rain in March and April has generated a significant growth of fuel, which can favor the spread of fires when the vegetation is dry.
The general firefighters are planning a classic campaign. The significant growth of fuel and the herbaceous heat could lead to an intense campaign from the second half of July.
Last year, 39% of fires were due to negligence and 27% were intentional.
Campaign Focus
This year’s campaign focuses on command capacity, constant risk analysis, and the drone fleet, which will help obtain key data for strategic decision-making.
Fire Analysis
The Forest Action Group (GRAF) has information on all climatic parameters that influence a forest fire. With this, they will provide daily monitoring.
When there is an active forest fire, they will evaluate the interaction of the fire with the atmosphere using a virtual simulation to provide the generation of pyrocumulus and the areas they could affect.
Drone Unit
For this campaign, the Generalitat Fire Brigade will have 25 state drones, equipped with soft intelligence software. The three drone unit bases are located in Cerdanyola del Vallès, La Pera, and Mollerussa.
Personnel Reinforcement
There are 2,930 professional firefighters (133 more than in 2024) and 1,577 volunteer firefighters (266 more than in 2024).
The 2025 campaign has a reinforcement of 457 personnel.
