The civil protection has increased the confinement order for the population of Cervera, although it maintains the confinement in Granyanella, la Curulda, and les Fonolleres, due to the presence of smoke from the fire this Saturday in Grayena de Segarra (Lleida), which affects around 445 hectares of predominantly agricultural land, but also forests and urban areas.
The fire, which started in a burnt vehicle and then spread rapidly through the fields, has affected the land of the municipalities of Granyanella, Granyena de Segarra, and Cervera, and a large part of this land is located within the protected natural area, as reported by the authorities.
The head of the Pumpers intervention in this fire, Ricard Expósito, explained in statements to the media that the wind has favored the rapid spread of the fire, but he expects it to be completely under control «in 2 or 3 hours.»
He also stated that there may be damage to some buildings, although they have no information on any personal injuries.
Since the Generalitat’s firefighters received the alert at 13:27, the fire has advanced about 5.5 kilometers, within a perimeter of 12 kilometers, and at 20:30 the firefighters continue working with over 80 ground crews and 12 air units.
The civil protection has activated the fire plan due to the simultaneous nature of the fires in different parts of Catalonia, as the firefighters are working on two other fires: one between Martorell and Sant Esteve Sesrovires and another in Sant Salvador de Guardiola (Barcelona), and has asked the population not to travel to the affected areas to facilitate the extinction work.
The A-2 highway is completely closed between Cervera and Tàrrega in both directions, with diversions signposted towards the AP-2 in Sossa, and the roads L-303, L-311b, LV-2141, and N-IIA in Cervera and N-IIA in Grayanella are also closed, according to the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).
